On Hollowed, Brighton's Ital Tek trades his habitual jungle and dubstep rhythms for a more varied—and more contemplative—vision of bass music. The cycling pulses of "Beyond Sight" recall Philip Glass, while "Murmur" fuses hip-hop drums with contemporary classical sounds and "Cobra" suggests a kind of gothic trap. Buzzing synths and processed guitars give the music an unusually physical heft, particularly on the gut-rumbling "Reflection Through Destruction". The organs of "Vesper" and "Vacuum I", meanwhile, offer two contrasting takes on ambient music—both of them equally gorgeous.

A dubstep/IDM producer specializing in dark, atmospheric sounds influenced by grime and jungle, Brighton's Ital Tek (born Alan Myson) first appeared in 2006 on the download label Net Lab. The release was the Terminator 2 EP, five tracks with a heavy Aphex Twin influence and samples of Arnold Schwarzenegger. In 2007 he introduced the deep dubstep sound that would become his signature when his "Blood Lines" 12" dropped on Planet Mu. That same year, the Snippets collection rounded up unfinished works...
