説明

iKIC - Kanji in Context for the iPod Touch and iPhone is a robust tool for Japanese kanji and vocabulary study. This study program is the very same used by the Inter-University Center for Japanese Language Studies in Yokohama, Japan; the leading school for Japanese language studies.

Where other kanji software may give unedited, freestanding, and vague definitions of kanji, iKIC teaches kanji through vocabulary and example sentences to help demonstrate the nuances of similar words or more abstract concepts.

Along with every kanji is a presentation of its stroke order, its meaning, as well as several different indexes for further look-up in Japanese kanji dictionaries.

iKIC doesn't stop at text based study. Students have the ability to obtain audio samples for every word and sentence in iKIC; useful for not only memorization, but for proper pronunciation as well. 11 teachers at the Inter-University Center contributed to these recordings, so users are guaranteed a variety of voices and speaking patterns to help boost comprehension.

FEATURES OF IKIC:

- Lesson-based study: Lessons contain both basic and advanced groups of vocabulary. Students may choose to study basic, advanced, or both groups at the same time.

- Convenient lesson layout: Kanji are presented through new vocabulary in each lesson. Target kanji are underlined for quick recognition by students.

- Overview study: Students can quickly view meanings and readings for vocabulary straight from the lesson screen. Shaking the iPhone or iPod Touch causes the furigana reading to appear above the vocabulary, while the English meaning appears below. Shaking again causes this information to disappear.

- Detailed study: Selecting an individual word in a lesson listing brings up the vocabulary screen. From here, the reading, English meaning, and example sentences are displayed. Single-tapping a sentence reveals its furigana reading.

- Audio playback: Users may play back unlocked audio by double-tapping a word or sentence on the vocabulary screen. Unlocked audio is also automatically played during lesson quizzes. Audio for the first lesson is provided along with iKIC. Further audio content is available from within iKIC's In-App Store.

- Kanji explanations: Selecting a kanji in search, or touching an individual kanji on the vocabulary screen will display a detailed breakdown of the kanji. Onyomi, kunyomi, English meaning, stroke order, as well as shinkanei and nelson indexes are provided.

- Lesson quiz: Users can test their ability on 1 or multiple lessons, optionally testing their kanji recognition, kanji writing, or English to Japanese translation abilities.

- Full search: Users may search across kanji and vocabulary for refined study.

- Extra content available through the In-App Store: Obtain all 143 lessons featuring thousands of audio samples, sentences, and vocabulary by using the In-App Store in iKIC. Don't need all the audio from iKIC? Then feel free to purchase only the text lessons. Want to upgrade to all 143 lessons with full audio? Special discounted combinations are also available within the store.

Here is the breakdown of available content in iKIC:

Base version: 2363 words, 350 kanji with audio for lesson 1 and text for lessons 1-18
Lessons 19-143: 7360 words, 1597 kanji
Lessons 2-18 Audio: Audio for lessons 2-18
Lessons 19-143 Audio: Audio for lessons 19-143
Premium Add-on: All audio and text for lessons 2-143

Effective kanji based vocabulary building

This kanji based vocabulary learning App stands out from number of other cheaper but mediocre apps.

Meant for intermediate to advanced learners, it differs from other apps because of its content, which is succint, accurate, and focussed.

I like its clear UI, legible faunt size, furigana reading on tap, quick review using browse feature.

This is a lesson based app as opposed to other apps which are flashcard based. It allows you to progress at your own pace without slowing you down.

I would like to see some additional features in the next update as follows.

-flashcard option to be provided, in addition to quiz option
-app should remember and bring you back to the same point in the quiz upon exit from and reentry into the app.
-English meanings of example sentences to be provided
-if you tap on unknown kanji inside the example sentence , it should directly jump to that kanji
-on the kanji page, similar looking kanji to be provided with jump feature
-on the kanji page, Ikic lesson no be provided
-on the kanji page, instead of classifying as onyomi and kunyomi, it will be more helpful to foreigners, if yomikata and corresponding kanji meanings are grouped together.

Looking forward to continued improvements to deserve a 5 star rating.

This app is very good for studying kanji. from basic to advanced learners of kanji. With Audio for pronounciation is a lot helpful too.
