About Hanson

Oklahoma sibling pop trio Hanson were everywhere in 1997 with their hyper-catchy No. 1 smash “MMMBop.” • Brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac Hanson began performing together in the early 1990s and released a pair of independent albums: 1995’s Boomerang and 1996’s MMMBop, which included an early, slower version of the song. • After signing to Mercury Records, Hanson recorded a new version of “MMMBop” for 1997’s Middle of Nowhere, their major label debut. The album reached No. 2 in the US and No. 1 in the UK, while “MMMBop” hit No. 1 in a dozen countries, including the US, and received a pair of Grammy nominations. • Hanson quickly followed Middle of Nowhere with Snowed In, their first Christmas album, which made to it No. 7 in the US. • The band’s second proper major label album, This Time Around, came out in 2000 and reached No. 19 in the US. The title track peaked at No. 20 on the singles chart. • Creative disagreements with their label following This Time Around prompted Hanson to go independent in the 2000s, starting with Underneath in 2004. The LP topped Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and reached No. 25 on the Billboard 200. • In 2009, Taylor Hanson was part of Tinted Windows, a side project featuring members of Smashing Pumpkins, Cheap Trick, and Fountains of Wayne. The group released a self-titled album that year. • Hanson has continued releasing albums every few years, and while their commercial fortunes have receded since the late ’90s, the brothers continue to be an in-demand concert draw with a devoted fanbase.
