About Teri Thornton

Teri Thornton made her recording debut in 1960, and had a bonafide hit single in '63 ("Somewhere In The Night," the theme from a popular television showTHE NAKED CITY), but her struggles with alcohol addiction damaged her career. In the late '90s, while living in a retirement home for artists, Thornton staged a truly remarkable comeback when she won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute’s Jazz Vocal Competition, receiving a $20,000 prize, and rave reviews. Her superb 1999 comeback album was confirmation of a musical re-awakening, and the triumph of an indomitable spirit. Thornton succumbed to cancer shortly afterwards.
