Like the jungle of its interior, the geography of urban Brazil seems to embody a kind of fertile chaos. The lack of adequate urban planning coupled with radical social inequality has resulted in cities that are on the verge of becoming environmental and social disaster zones. Deep in the Brazilian jungle, Manaus, the capital of Amazonas is a city in the throes of this urban transition.
State authorities backed by international aid have chosen a radical solution to addressing the problems of its favelas and irregular housing.
“Manaus, The Great Move” turns the iPad into an innovative multimedia magazine. Through audio interviews, more than 150 pictures, articles and maps Journalist Jacques Denis and photographer Hubert Hayaud take you to to the disappearing stilt villages of Manaus and those who are being forced to leave them.
