Album Review

Ivor Novello specialized in writing light, romantic operettas. This disc collects 22 excerpts from these works and features as performers many of the singers who appeared in the original shows. Novello himself provides piano backing on four of the pieces. The record also includes music that was on the soundtrack of Gosford Park. Fans of musical theater will find this to be a charming CD and an important document of a great and somewhat forgotten songwriter.
