Mississippi native Dent May specializes in retro-minded indie-pop that draws upon Lee Hazlewood, Serge Gainsbourg, and Jonathan Richman as notable touchstones. Upon signing to Animal Collective’s Paw Tracks label, May unveiled his debut, THE GOOD FEELING MUSIC OF DENT MAY & HIS MAGNIFICENT UKULELE, in early ’09, revealing a stylistic kinship to fellow quirky singer-songwriters such as Jens Lekman and Sondre Lerche. While May’s songs are rooted in a kitschy lounge aesthetic, they also feature undeniably catchy melodies, as best evinced on “Meet Me in the Garden.”
