A Canadian folk group whose eclectic repertoire extended from traditional Celtic ballads to covers of Sly & the Family Stone funk jams, Mad Pudding were formed in Vancouver, British Columbia, during the late '80s by singers and multi-instrumentalists Andy Hillhouse and Amy Stephen, fiddler Cam Wilson, and bassist Richard Ernst. After adding drummer John Hildebrand in 1993, Mad Pudding recorded their debut LP, Bruce's Vegetable Garden, a year later; Ernst exited a short time after, and was replaced by French-born bassist and pianist Boris Favre. The quintet's second album, Dirt and Stone, followed in 1996; Rattle on the Stovepipe appeared a year later, and in 1999 Mad Pudding resurfaced with Grand Hotel. ~ Jason Ankeny
