About Scarlett O'Hara

Hailing from the Texas border town of McAllen, post-hardcore outfit Scarlett O'Hara deliver typically brutal metalcore packed with urgent screaming, pounding drums, and the occasional melody and soaring vocals. They debuted in the late 2000s with Lost in Existence -- when most of the original lineup was still in high school -- later going on hiatus for almost a decade. They returned in 2018 with their matured sophomore effort, Welcome Back to the Brodeo. Formed in 2007 by founding vocalists Rene Lopez and Eddie Cano, the band later recruited Alex Samodouroff (guitar/bass/production), Edwin Chapa (drums), and Morgan Vincent Hochstetler (keys). This incarnation issued the Call It Reckless EP in 2007. Soon after, Chapa and Hochstetler were replaced by permanent fixtures (and Cano's fellow McAllen Memorial High School classmates) Arnie Bernal (drums/vocals) and Logan Burns (keys/guitar/vocals), with indie-loving bassist (and eldest member of the group) Andrew Mena rounded out the crew. The sextet started work on its debut for Rise Records, Lost in Existence, which arrived in 2010. Influenced by the likes of the Devil Wears Prada, We Came as Romans, A Skylit Drive, Of Mice & Men, and many more scene veterans, they toured nationally and built a following before parting ways with Rise and suddenly announcing an indefinite hiatus in 2011. They wouldn't return until 2017, announcing plans for their comeback album with members Cano, Bernal, Burns, Mena, and Samodouroff. The quintet released the melodic Welcome Back to the Brodeo (South Texas Metalcore) at the end of summer in 2018. In addition to a Top 20 showing on the Hard Rock chart, the effort topped the regional Heatseekers tally, while peaking at number 20 on the overall Heatseekers list. Brodeo included the singles "Locked from Within" and "Welcome Back to the Brodeo (Step Right Up)." ~ Neil Z. Yeung
