About Tauk

An adventurous fusion outfit, New York's Tauk emerged in the early 2010s playing a cross-pollinated brand of jazz, funk, prog, and instrumental jam band rock. Although friends since their teens, the bandmembers came to wider attention after Tauk toured with Umphrey's McGee and released their own 2013 album, Homunculus. Favorites on the jam band circuit, Tauk keep an intense live schedule, appearing at festivals around the globe. Hailing from Oyster Bay, New York, Tauk feature guitarist Matt Jalbert, keyboardist Alric Carter, bassist Charlie Dolan, and drummer Isaac Teel. Friends since the seventh grade, Jalbert, Carter, and Dolan played together in various bands growing up before forming Tauk. After high school, each of them went on to study jazz, with Jalbert attending the University of Vermont, Dolan at New York University, and Carter at Northwestern University. After graduating, they reunited the band, releasing several albums and going through some lineup changes before solidifying in 2012 with the addition of Brooklyn-born drummer Teel. A year later, the group released its first album with Teel, Homunculus. Around the same time, Tauk gained a wider audience after joining Umphrey's McGee on tour. More tours followed, including stints with Robert Randolph and Widespread Panic, as well as appearances at Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, and the Allman Brothers' Peach Music Festival. Along with their live schedule, they have continued to record regularly, issuing Collisions in 2014, Headroom in 2015, and Sir Nebula in 2016. The Shapeshifter I: Construct EP followed in 2018. ~ Matt Collar
