Tony Scherr

About Tony Scherr

Although he performs most frequently as a bassist, Tony Scherr is also a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer. Scherr landed his first major gig while still a teenager (with Woody Herman) and eventually became a fixture in the late '80s/early '90s in New York City’s downtown avant jazz scene, playing with such acts as the Lounge Lizards and Sex Mob. The projects Scherr chooses to participate in and/or produce usually reflect his eclectic, adventurous tastes, and he is quite active as a session musician, appearing on albums by Bill Frisell, John Scofield, and Norah Jones, among others. He has also released two solo albums with a folk-rock flavor, COME AROUND in 2002 and TWIST IN THE WIND in 2008.
