Introduction Health visitors review and monitor every preschool child's language development, but this does not usually include bilingual or multilingual development. Although perhaps 95% of the UK population speak only English, there are hundreds of thousands of speakers of other languages. These are mainly languages of Asian origin, but European languages and Caribbean languages are also widely spoken. It is worth considering what advice health visitors have for these families.
