Album Review

The Frantics had already established themselves as radio and television stars on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and released one album on the CBC label. Boot to the Head is the group's second album, and its release on Attic ensured the group wider distribution. The material is slightly anarchic, as usual, but quite a lot racier than was allowed on the radio. The album leads off with a sketch about someone giving birth to a piece of pie, moves on to the phallic nature of the CN Tower, shooting Bambi's mother, dirty words in newspapers, and "lubed-up sex vixens." Not all of it is quite so on the edge: "Game Show Game Show" is a parody of you know what, "Worshippers 'R' Us" tries to synthesize the perfect religion, and "You People Are Fat" is pretty much an extended cheap shot. The piece "Ti Kwan Leep" is probably the highlight, mixing Eastern wisdom with the Frantics' trademark "boot to the head."
