Agustín Lara was arguably Mexico's most celebrated songwriter, and his tunes were performed by some of the biggest names in Latin music, including Pérez Prado, Desi Arnaz, and Xavier Cugat, as well as pop legends such as Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole. But Lara was an intelligent and artful interpreter of his material, and this collection features 12 of his greatest compositions performed by the man who created them. Lara excelled in a variety of song styles — ranchera, bolero, tropical songs, even the occasional tango — and brought a cosmopolitan flair to the Old West while vivifying many early Mexican films with his rich music.
