Album Review

Hall follows up his debut with an overall fine effort that should provide lighter and easier access to fans of the singer/songwriter's former band the Wild Seeds. Love Is Murder reunites Hall with former Wild Seed'ssinger Kris McCay — who adds backup vocals to the rockin' "Demolition Moon," and sings lead on the gorgeous "Baby, You Scare Me." Hall's sharp wit and funny observations are fortunately still very much intact, as demonstrated in album highlights — "Let's Take Some Drugs and Drive Around," "Put Down That Pig" and "What Did They Do with the President's Brain?"

After spending time at the University of Texas journalism school and The Austin Chronicle in the late '70s, Texas modern rocker Michael Hall joined the Wild Seeds. The band released three albums: Life Is Grand (Life in Soul City) (1985), Brave, Clean & Reverent (1986) and Mud, Lies & Shame (1988). Wild Seeds broke up in 1989 after their label, Passport, filed bankruptcy; however, they had already gained a cult following around the country. In 1990, Hall issued his first solo album, Quarter to Three....
