Album Review

The album debut for the British duo includes new versions of past singles "Open Your Mind," "Music Is the Key" and "Total Control" (the latter an Origin Unknown remix) alongside original productions on "Artificial Intelligence" and "Ignorance." The drum programming is stunning, a peak easily the best achieved on any drum'n'bass LP before or since. With an impressive roster of remix/engineering helpers (Omni Trio, Hopa & Bones, Rob Playford) and a varied repertoire encompassing soul, funk and trip-hop in addition to hardcore breakbeats, Suspected is one of the best early full-lengths produced by the jungle scene.

One of the most important collectives in breakbeat dance's shift from hardcore to jungle during the early '90s, Foul Play was responsible for seminal drum'n'bass tracks like "Open Your Mind," "Being with You" and their remix of Omni Trio's "Renegade Snares" (all recorded for Moving Shadow Records).
