iTunes Review

David Bowie was one of rock music’s most versatile performers, reinventing himself every few years for the sake of personal and spiritual renewal. His storied career gave him an impeccable catalogue to choose from. His expert sidemen —guitarist Earl Slick, bassist Gail Ann Dorsey—mean these tunes are delivered at maximum force. They come from his 2003-2004 World Tour, during which he suffered a heart attack in Germany that has slowed his career considerably and include ferocious renditions of old-school classics such as “Rebel, Rebel”, “Fame”, “All The Young Dudes” (the Mott the Hoople hit he wrote) and “Ashes to Ashes”, alongside tracks from his then-current album Reality that show a rejuvenated Bowie with updated glam rockers like “New Killer Star”, “Reality” and the slow dance of “Bring Me the Disco King”. It’s a big sound with Bowie in great voice. The stage gives him an energy he puts to good use as he cruises through his career, stopping at such highlights as “Sister Midnight”, “China Girl”, “Under Pressure” and “The Man Who Sold the World” with a strong urge to fight still in his star-dazzled delivery.
