About Mary Martin Stockdale

New age pianist Mary Martin Stockdale grew up in the country town of Romeo, MI, north of Detroit. When she was a child, her family was given a piano by neighbors, and she began taking lessons at the age of five and writing songs at 11. She performed in recitals and accompanied choirs while attending high school. When she was 18, her family moved to the desert outside Tucson, AZ, and she attended the University of Arizona, from which she graduated with a B.A. in education and a minor in music. She gave piano lessons and taught sixth grade for a year, then decided to specialize in music education and moved to Colorado, eventually settling in the small town of Steamboat Springs. There she became a private teacher at the Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and began to write contemporary instrumental music, leading to the recording and release of her first album, Portraits on the Piano (1999). The album earned favorable attention in new age circles, leading to her second collection, Trout Creek Lullaby (2002). Timeless appeared in 2004. ~ William Ruhlmann
