Led by Carlos Colorado, La Sonora Santanera were one of Mexico's favorite dance bands through the 1950s and ‘60s; their sound was dominated by musica tropical elements such as the rhumba, the cha-cha, and the mambo, but they also gave their music a local flavor by incorporating cumbia and bolero into the mix, and their fire and skill made them a popular attraction in Mexico and Latin America. La Sonora Santanera enjoyed a long and fruitful recording career, and this compilation features 30 fine selections from the group's catalog, including "Amor de Cabaret," "La Boca," "Futo Robado," "Perfume de Gardenias," "Con un Beso," and many more.

La Sonora Santanera's leader, Carlos Colorado, belonged to a local orquesta in his hometown of Barra de Santa Ana, but it was not until he moved to Mexico City that his group, Tropical Santanera, was born. The band played private parties around the city, attracting the attention of promoter Jesús "Palillo" Martínez, who helped them get a gig at the Follies Bergere Theater.
