Album Review

If nothing else, this Flint, MI, crew has one of the most inventive names in hip-hop. Artfull Dodgers have a nice sound but their lyrics simply do not connect with the diverse musical spectrum of their beats. The lyrics are just plain contrived in places and almost drown out their beats, the strength of their music. There are a couple of true saving graces on Lazy Eyes including "Love Changes" with a sample from the theme to David Lynch's Twin Peaks and "Midwest's Best," which swells with the talents of 12 nice MCs. ~ M.F. Flint, MI, indie rappers B-Gozza (Brady Gasser) and Jackpot (Rex Demski) founded the Artfull Dodgers (the name deriving from a character in Oliver Twist) in 1996 in order to continue making music, since their previous, larger crew, collectively called the Juggernaut, had dissolved.
