Playlist: The Very Best of Europe features 14 tracks defined on the back jacket as "the life-changing songs, the out-of-print tracks, the hits, the fan favorites everyone loves, and the songs that make the artists who they are." The Swedish hair metal outfit joined a prestigious group upon releasing the international mega-single "The Final Countdown" in 1986. Whether they knew that the song would eventually stand arm and arm with Queen's "We Will Rock You" at sporting events for all eternity remains doubtful, but there's no denying the anthem's staying power. The band's only other "big" international hit was the sickening ballad "Carrie," which appears here alongside smaller successes like "Cherokee" and "Rock the Night."

Originally a progressive rock group, Europe didn't achieve success until they reworked their sound into bombastic yet melodic pop-metal. In their first incarnation, the Swedish band was called Force.
