In the course of their nine albums for A&M Records between 1969 and 1975, the Strawbs grew from being an acoustic string band into a sophisticated prog rock outfit, a journey that is presented here in this two-disc set which is essentially the same as the previous year's Halcyon Days: The A&M Years with a slightly rearranged running order. Included are essential tracks like "Martin Luther King's Dream," "Ghosts," "The River," and "Down by the Sea."

One of the better British progressive bands of the early '70s, the Strawbs differed from their more successful compatriots — the Moody Blues, King Crimson, Pink Floyd — principally in that their sound originated in English folk music, rather than rock.
