Album Review

This CD reissue features a logical frontline comprised of tenor saxophonist Lester Young and trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison. With pianist Oscar Peterson, guitarist Herb Ellis, bassist Ray Brown and drummer Buddy Rich completing the sextet, it is not surprising that the music is quite swinging. Young was in good form that day, obviously happy to be having a reunion with his fellow Count Basie alumnus Sweets. On a variety of swing standards (highlighted by "Mean to Me," "Pennies From Heaven" and "One O'Clock Jump") plus "Bad Boy Blues," Prez and Sweets perform infectiously enjoyable music.
