Album Review

There are no less than three versions of the title track on Charlotte Nilsson's debut album. Take Me to Your Heaven is featured in its original form, in a karaoke version, and in a dance mix of the Swedish-language original. It's a fair indication that this is a rather cobbled together affair, as further demonstrated by the cheap artwork and the fact that the album includes a ten-minute medley of ABBA hits. Indeed, this album was rushed out in Sweden to capitalize on Nilsson's surprise success; her "official" debut album would follow a few months later. That said, it isn't a terrible listen. Take Me to Your Heaven is itself a perfect example of Swedish schlager music, very reminiscent of ABBA in the best possible sense. The rest of the tracks, save the unnecessary medley, are pleasant Swedish MOR in a similar vein, nothing reaching the heights of her debut, but very little that is outright poor. "Min Morgon Efter Regn" is the best of the bunch, and the album ticks along at a reasonable pace. By no means an essential purchase, but if seen in a bargain bin, perhaps this is worth a listen. Nilsson would go on to better things as her career progressed.
