Album Review

For the budget-minded consumer, Sony Legacy's Playlist: The Very Best of Fishbone collects 14 tracks from America’s favorite funk/punk/ska group. While it may not be the most thorough Fishbone compilation, and a few of the band's biggest singles are left off the tracklisting — including "It's a Wonderful Life (Gonna Have a Good Time)" — it's a solid overview. Wisely, the focus is placed on early albums in Fishbone's career, with half of the cuts taken from Truth and Soul and The Reality of My Surroundings. Fan favorites "Ma and Pa," "Party at Ground Zero," "Sunless Saturday," and "Bonin' in the Boneyard" make the listening experience a fun, upbeat jaunt that rivals other, pricier collections like The Essential Fishbone and Fishbone 101: Nuttasuarusmeg Fossil Fuelin' The Fonkay.
