About Bassnectar

Describing his music style as “omnitempo maximalism”, DJ and producer Bassnectar integrated numerous styles—everything from dubstep to metal—to become one of the biggest names in electronic music. • Born Lorin Ashton, Bassnectar spent his early life in a commune near San Jose. His musical journey began in his teens. After learning how to play the guitar, he formed a death metal band called Pale Existence. • He discovered rave culture in his late teens. By the mid-’90s, he was regularly performing as DJ Lorin, and by the end of the decade, he’d begun releasing mixtapes. • Experimenting with heavy bass, he began to build a reputation at festivals like Burning Man, where he was a regular throughout the 2000s. By the middle of the decade, he’d become popular enough to tour the country and play 150 shows per year. • He made his first appearance on the charts when 2009’s Cozza Frenzy peaked just outside the Top 20 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums. • His 2014 album Noise vs. Beauty became his first of three No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums. The LP also broke through to the pop charts, reaching No. 21 on the Billboard 200. • Bassnectar issued 2020’s All Colors before stepping back from music following allegations of sexual misconduct.
