About Bruce Levingston

Pianist Bruce Levingston has specialized in contemporary music, having recorded for Philip Glass' Orange Mountain Music label and for the similarly oriented label Sono Luminus. He has been involved with performances of new works by several major composers. His collaborators on new projects have included not only composers but also painters, dancers, writers, and choreographers. Levingston made his recording debut in 2006 with Portraits. He performed at the opening of the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and collaborated on the commission and premiere of an oratorio, Repast, based on the life of the civil rights figure Booker Wright. He has continued to record, issuing the thematic albums Citizen (2019), Prelude to Dawn (2021), and Without Words (2023). Governor Phil Bryant proclaimed April 9 Bruce Levingston Day in the state of Mississippi.
