Fairburn Royals

About Fairburn Royals

Athens, Georgia-based the Fairburn Royals emerged in the early 2000s playing a lo-fi brand of melodic, guitar-based indie rock influenced by bands like Neutral Milk Hotel, Guided by Voices, and the Beatles. The band gained fans with albums like 2002's From a Window Way Above and 2004's The Whistler before disbanding. They eventually reunited for 2018's 'Til the Sun Disappeared. Formed in 2000 in Athens, Georgia, the Fairburn Royals initially came together while the members were in college. Centered on guitarists Matt Lisle and Wesley Black's catchy, pop-influenced melodies, they released their debut record, Sunshine Slowdown, on Happy Happy Birthday to Me in 2001. From a Window Way Above followed a year later, and found the band further honing their lo-fi indie rock sound. A series of compilation appearances followed, along with the aptly titled Free EP, which appeared as a free digital download in 2003. It included reworkings of previously released material, including fan favorites like "Secretary's Day" and "Lonesome Townie Blues." Over the next few years, the band toured extensively across the United States before disbanding, with members moving on focus on their families and other projects. Following a decade-long hiatus, the group reunited and began working on new material. In 2018, Fairburn Royals released their third full-length album, 'Til the Sun Disappeared. ~ Matt Collar
