About Ghetto Ghouls

Texas punk band Ghetto Ghouls' raw, feral sound forsook the trend of 2010s garage rock bands looking to stony '70s psychedelia as a starting point and instead found their primary inspiration in the chaos and insanity of confrontational bands like Scratch Acid, the Dicks, and the Electric Eels. Ghetto Ghouls were formed in 2012 by vocalist Corey Anderson, guitarist Dan LeVine, and drummer Ian Rundell, three high-school friends who became a solidified band when bassist Garrett Hadden joined. Hadden and Rundell both worked at downtown Austin bar Beerland, and the group played and practiced in the seedy club, getting their sloppy sound together. They recorded their self-titled debut album in just four hours, only overdubbing a single backing vocal but running through everything else in a manner as close to their live set as possible. The album saw release in April of 2014. ~ Fred Thomas
