Parisians Julie Freyri and Jonathan Fitoussi founded synth duo Model Alpha in 2012. Their warm, hypnotic instrumentals, created entirely on analog synthesizers, are inspired by all manner of cosmic, arpeggio-happy electronic musicians from Laurie Spiegel to Manuel Göttsching, as well as Detroit techno pioneers such as Juan Atkins and Carl Craig. Their spacy yet rhythmically driven tracks occasionally have an ominous, cinematic feel, putting them in the company of synth revivalists such as Xander Harris and Pye Corner Audio. Model Alpha released their debut album, Dimensions, online toward the end of 2014, and French label Desire Records issued the album on vinyl the following year. ~ Paul Simpson
