About Monark
Renowned for their top-notch songwriting and cutting-edge production, pop group Monark have dominated SA’s mainstream airwaves since their formation in 2012. Hailing from Potchefstroom, Eugene Coetzer (vocals) and Ewald Jansen van Rensburg (guitar, synth and production) honed a grandiose style and anthemic sound solidified when Deon de Klerk (bass) and Graeme Wuth (drums) joined soon after. Spearheaded by Coetzer’s oversized, stadium-rock persona (“Build It Up”) and clear-cut falsetto (“Show Me the Love”), the four-piece earned an MK Award for Best Newcomer and iTunes New Artist feature in 2015, the same year that their debut album Negatives was released. With a writing style rich in hooks and stacked with bombastic percussion, these undisputed radio darlings continue to dominate charts and festival stages all over the country with their familiar brand of pop stylings.
