Biography

At the age of 16, Dutch house producer Moti (born Timo Romme) bought a set of turntables from a friend and started practicing. Two years later -- after finishing high school and starting his fashion design education -- he began DJ'ing in Amsterdam. Initially, he was one part of Groovenatics, an EDM duo he created with his cousin, Yordi Corsten. Groovenatics made their debut in 2007 with "Lose Control" and went on to release their own material, as well as remixes, over the next three years. In 2010, they parted ways and Romme began work on his solo career under the Moti moniker. Restless and experimental, he bolstered his catalog with both festival-sized EDM bangers and more intimate, melodic soundscapes fit for headphones. In addition to electronic music, Moti also experimented with the creation of indie rock, pop, hip-hop, and a cappella. He released his debut singles, "Circuits" and "Kinky Denise," with Dutch producer Quintino in 2012. These caught the ear of Tiesto, who signed Moti to his Red Light Management company. The pair released the track "Back to the Acid" that same year. Moti went on to collaborate with other progressive house producers like Martin Garrix ("Virus"), Blasterjaxx ("Ghost in the Machine"), and W&W ("Spack Jarrow"). At the end of 2015, he released a collaboration with Diplo's Major Lazer, "Boom," which also featured guest spots by Ty Dolla $ign, Wizkid, and Kranium. ~ Neil Z. Yeung
