Lawson started his music career at twelve. He started out as a band boy, but gradually moved up and now has a band of his own. Rex Lawson And The Mayor's Dance Band had several hits, some of which include "Jolly Papa," "Oko," and "Gowon Special." In 1976, Rex Lawson, considered to be one of Nigeria's best trumpet players, died suddenly at the height of his career. ~ All Music Guide
