Publisher Description

India leaves no one unaffected. During an adventure postponed for decades Lene takes on the otherness of India. Unconventionally and with a sense of humor and perspective she chronicles her encounters with naturopathy, spirituality, traffic, color, chaos, and curry. Writing, she finds that memories, thoughts and dreams crowd in on her, insisting on being included. The result is a tapestry woven of the vibrant threads of past and present, here and there. Later, as Lene sits at her mother’s deathbed, the lessons learned in India come back to guide her and, with a nod to Marcel Proust, the circle is complete. Originally from Denmark, Lene Gravesen traveled extensively in Europe and the United States, and lived in New York City before settling in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Among other activities, she studied at the Art Academy, was involved in the avant-garde film and performance scene, collaborated with dancers and choreographers and ran a student café. Ongoing dialogue with kindred spirits engaged in creative pursuits across boundaries of culture and discipline has always been her preferred modus vivendi. For the past fifteen years she has worked as a librarian at the Theater School.
