Beau Dommage (édition 30e anniversaire) [remastered 2004]

The francophone Montrealers' 1974 debut is a sparkling swirl of folk, pop and rock. Influenced by the organic folk-rock sounds of the day, the band produced an album full of rich vocal harmonies, ringing acoustic guitars and a sweet, sunny vibe. Some tracks, like “Le picbois”, have a dash of traditional Québécois folk, while the piano-led “À toutes les fois” touches engagingly on classic Carole King territory. Still, French lyrics notwithstanding, much of the LP sounds like it could’ve drifted out of Laurel Canyon as a dreamy addendum to Crosby, Stills & Nash’s salad days.
