This pleasant Rivieras retrospective includes all of the New Jersey group's singles for Coed, including the hits "Since I Made You Cry," "Moonlight Cocktails," "Moonlight Serenade," and "Count Every Star." Sensing a pattern here? The Rivieras were never doo wop's most popular group, but after "Serenade"became their biggest hit, they wisely used its premise as a thematic element. The rest of Moonlight Cocktails features easygoing, slow dance doo wop cuts that won't blow anyone's mind, but aren't too shabby, either. Now buy a carnation and head to the Star of the Sea dance. You're going to be late.

The careers of Englewood, NJ, natives Homer Dunn, Andy Jones, Ronald Allen, and Charles Cook hadn't reached first base when they met manager of a group named the Avons, who christened them the Four Arts because they favored pop songs. After Warren Lanier rediscovered the quartet, he renamed them the El Rivieras, though they remained unrecorded until Jones met William Fix, the manager of the Ames Brothers.
