The roiling and tumbling traditional music of Peru is a perfect fit for a freewheeling jam band, and this album from Juaneco y su Combo is thrilling proof. Juaneco and his cohorts often trade in their traditional acoustic guitars for electric. By incorporating rhythms from Brazilian and Colombian styles, they create a hyperkinetic, richly textured blend of hypnotic guitar patterns and shuffling, densely layered percussion on tracks like the shimmying "Un Shipibo en España" and the galloping "Recordando a Fachin".
