When Bebo Valdés, one of Cuba’s most beloved pianists, meets Diego El Cigala, a revered Spanish flamenco singer, you may never hear bolero the same way again. The fateful union of Valdés and Cigala resulted in a remarkable, Latin GRAMMY®-winning record that channels the melodramatic spirit of a ‘40s film noir. Cigala’s hoarse vocal delivery and Valdés' piano-driven compositions merge beautifully, like on the enigmatic “Inolvidable” or the wistful “Vete de Mí”. Together they rewrote the Latin songbook and made it easy to imagine that Afro-Cuban jazz had always been a part of flamenco.

Born in October 1918 in Quivican, Cuba, Bebo Valdés played piano from an early age and was very active as a performer, composer, arranger, and musical director at various Havana nightclubs throughout the ‘40s and into the 50s. During these years, he was also playing and arranging for numerous recording dates.
