Album Review

Steve Forbert couldn't have picked a more appropriate title than Evergreen Boy for his latest effort. It contains the same sturdy roots rock that Forbert's been sending our way for years. Forbert's yarns about relationships and daily life, like "Breaking Through" and "Trusting Old Soul," are spawned from the same spool of Americana that's served Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp so well. Although Forbert will probably never be as popular or acclaimed as those two, he's carved his own niche, with mature, mellow music that can still rock when necessary.

Anointed "the new Dylan" upon his recording debut, folk-rock singer/songwriter Steve Forbert was born in Meridian, Mississippi in 1954. After learning guitar at age 11, he spent his high-school years playing in a variety of local bands before quitting his job as a truck driver and moving to New York City at the age of 21.
