Red Hash

Red Hash

Released in 1973 but largely slept on until its 2005 reissue, Gary Higgins’ Red Hash is a lost masterpiece of psychedelic folk, a melancholic opus for quiet nights and weary mornings. Whether it’s in the solitary cellos coursing through “Telegraph Towers” or the gripping opening lines of “Thicker Than a Smokey” (“What do you intend to do young man?/Where do you intend to go?”), Red Hash is much too remarkable a patchwork for its genius to remain in the shadows.
