About Jimmy Dorsey

Though his reputation is often overshadowed by his younger brother Tommy, Jimmy Dorsey was a highly skilled alto sax player whose work was admired by then-emerging bop legends Charlie Parker and Lester Young. From 1935 until the early '50s, when he rejoined his brother, Jimmy led one of the more jazz-oriented of the white swing bands. They were one of the most popular bands of the time, continuing to score hits while other big bands fell prey to diminishing commercial returns.
