Playdough

About Playdough

Known for his legendary efforts in the world of underground rap, success seems to continually elude the talented MC known as Playdough. A white rapper with lyrics that reflect a social conscience, part of his lack of fame is undoubtedly related to the fact that his image and rhymes are far away from the traditional image of a hip hop star. Working the underground circuit as a Texas teenager, his first break came when his group, Ill Harmonics, scored a role in an independent film. The group was signed to Uprok Records and released two records, while Playdough also began working with underground luminaries like Deepspace 5 and Phonetic Composition. Appearances on MTV's The Cut gave him even greater exposure, but the mainstream breakthrough still was just out of reach. In 2002, he finally recorded his first solo album, Lonely Superstar, a playful record that appeared in October of that year. ~ Bradley Torreano
