Photoshop Before Photoshop

How images were manipulated before Photoshop. Such manipulations were done in the darkroom with chemicals and processes that were more hands on and difficult than their digital counterpart. With respect to the skill that is necessary for the use of photoshop, it is a completely different animal to produce similar photographs through film manipulation alone.
