From Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone ("Any Given Sunday," "Platoon") comes this epic story of Alexander the Great, the King of Macedonia and one of the greatest military leaders in the history of warfare, who over an eight year period managed to conquer 90% of the known world of his time by age 25. This story chronicles Alexander's path to becoming a living legend, from a youth fueled by dreams of myth, glory, and adventure, to his intense bonds with his closest companions, to his lonely death as a ruler of a vast empire - an incredible story of a life that united the Known World and proved that, if nothing else, fortune favors the bold. Starring Colin Farrell ("S.W.A.T.," "Minority Report"), Academy Award-winners Angelina Jolie ("Tomb Raider" 1 and 2, "Girl, Interrupted") and Anthony Hopkins ("Hearts in Atlantis," "Hannibal"), Val Kilmer ("Spartan," "Heat"), Jared Leto ("Panic Room," "Fight Club") and Rosario Dawson ("Sin City," Men In Black II").

Top Critics' Reviews
Rotten: Though the battles have the blood-and-sinew bravado you expect from Oliver Stone, this three-hour buttnumbathon is hamstrung by a hectoring grandiosity, not new to Stone, and a nod toward caution, which is.
Rotten: This is Stone's weakest movie of the past 20 years, and it's unlikely to make any kind of blip.
Rotten: Sluggish, unsmiling, and almost as limp as the feather fans with which our heroes are gently aerated on their trip to the Hanging Gardens of Babylon.
Rotten: At a reported cost of $155 million, Alexander qualifies as a super-spectacle in every respect but one -- namely in its neurotic, confused and sexually ambidextrous hero.
Doesn't get the credit it deserves.
This movie is spectacular. All things considered, it's pretty historically correct (with the exception of a few scenes). The cinematography is amazing, and so is the story itself. The accents can be a little off-putting (particularly the distinct Irish and Scottish accents of some of the soldiers, and the strange accent used by Angelina Jolie as Alexander's "barbarian" mother), but if you look past the (mostly) minor inaccuracies and allow yourself to get caught up in the breathtaking scenes and the beautiful story, I guarantee you'll enjoy it. If you're someone who can't sit still for more than an hour and a half, or someone who doesn't accept historically accurate Greek sexuality, then this movie is definitely not for you. But if you're like me, and you love Alexander the Great, then you'll probably love this movie as well.
Jab a Needle in my eye
perhaps the worst movie ever made. i would rather watch someone beat my dog then watch this movie again. i would recommend a heroin addiction before watching this movie. your welcome, i just saved three hours of your life.
i have seen this movie many times and it is pretty good. the battle scenes tend to be a little long but the acting is great and its great for the educational aspect of it. angelina jolie looks absolutely beautiful and colin farrel doesnt look half bad himself. if your into historical movies.. rent it.
