About the Movie

A curse transforms a handsome and arrogant young man into everything he detests in this contemporary retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Wealthy Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer) has everything a teenager could want in life, but he still gets off on humiliating the weaker and less attractive. When Kyle invites his misfit classmate Kendra (Mary-Kate Olsen) to an environmental rally at their school, she questions his motivations but reluctantly accepts. Later, Kyle blows Kendra off, prompting the spurned goth girl to cast a dark spell on the swaggering egotist. The spell causes Kyle to transform into an unsightly creature that strikes fear into the heart of everyone he meets, and the only way to reverse it is for him to find someone who can love him for who he is on the inside. Subsequently sent by his repulsed father to live in Brooklyn, Kyle forges a tenuous friendship with his kindly housekeeper (Lisa Gay Hamilton) and his blind tutor (Neil Patrick Harris). When Kyle witnesses a drug addict in a desperate struggle with a menacing dealer, he intervenes, promising to protect the addict under the condition that his beautiful daughter, Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens), comes to live with the unsightly recluse in his sprawling Brooklyn home. Over time, the two forge a relationship that grows much deeper than anything Kyle has ever experienced before.

I think this movie is great, a lot of people think it is pathetic, but I would really recommend that you go ahead and watch it! It is a movie with a great story line "looks aren't as important as what is on the inside"

I hope you find this review helpful!

This story has an absolutely beautiful message that is missing from most teen movies today. The fact that beauty is found within is a concept that is sadly lost on today's youth, and this movie (and the book, which you should definitely read!!) tries to bring it back in a fresh, modern, retelling of a classic tale. In my opinion, Beastly is very highly underrated, and to me was one of the best films of the year. Please give Beastly a chance, but more importantly, PASS ON ITS MESSAGE!!!

When i first saw the trailer the first thing that popped into my mind was Beauty and The Beast and I was right. This film is nowhere near as good as Beauty and The Beast. This is a terribly written film with horrible acting and a dumb script. Alex Pettyfer is a good looking guy and even with the weird tree branch tattoos and scars and piercings he still looks like he can be a male model which defeats the whole purpose of this film. Another thing that bothered me was how can Vanessa Hudgens character not be able to tell that he's Kyle (Alex Pettyfer)?! Is she blind? It's him without the hair, what is this Superman? With the hair standing in for the glasses? Anyway I wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone out there, spare yourselves the torture and not watch this horribly written, awfully acted movie.
