Rotten: "Edith+Eddie" boasts executive producers Steve James and Cher, which will no doubt garner some interest, but this basic treatment plays like an expanded news item. – Jude Dry, indieWire, Feb 23, 2018

Touching Story and a Wake Up Call

It is a beautiful love story of the cutest couple. Eddie dotes on Edith and it is very evident they are very much in love. In a twisted sense they are the 2014 version of the Lovings who also had "the powers that be" trying to tear asunder their marriage. It takes dark turn and shows the underbelly of the probate systems, which contrary to what it would have you believe is not there to "help" individuals. SPOILER ALERT!!!!

Edith is forcibly taken from her longtime home and the daughter (Rebecca) that had been caring for her long term. Court records show Patricia's plans were to institutionalize her mother and sell her property. Heartbroken at his wife being forcibly taken from him Eddie passes away shortly thereafter.

Guardianship laws in Virginia and across the country provide professional guardians unlimited power and many use it euthanize the elderly and disabled. IMO they are the new Nazi's. This Academy Award Nominated documentary will hopefully bring needed change to a corrupted and dangerous system.
