A hit movie that became a cultural sensation, Flashdance delivers an electrifying mix of music, drama and dance that dazzles the senses as it touches the heart. Jennifer Beals stars as Alex Owens, a fiercely determined 18-year-old with one all-consuming dream: to study at the Pittsburgh Conservatory of Dance. Working during the day as a welder and at night as an exotic dancer. Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The story doesn't help Miss Beals either, because she's at her least convincing when having to register any emotion other than rapture. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Rotten: Unlike its grittily romantic predecessors, Flashdance is pure glitz. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, Mar 25, 2013

Rotten: Virtually plotless, exceedingly thin on characterization and sociologically laughable, pic at least lives up to its title by offering an anthology of extraordinarily flashy dance numbers. – Variety Staff, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Jennifer Beals shouldn't feel bad. She is a natural talent, she is fresh and engaging here, and only needs to find an agent with a natural talent for turning down scripts. – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, Jul 7, 2010
