Leonardo DiCaprio drives an electrifying performance as the criminally rebellious son in this funny and stirring tale of one family's humor and heartache. Seventeen years ago, fiercely independent Lee (Meryl Streep) left home ... and left behind her kindhearted sister Bessie (Diane Keaton) to care for their father, Marvin (Hume Cronyn). But now Lee is returning with her teenage son (DiCaprio), for a homecoming that's sure to turn the entire household upside down!

Fresh: Powerhouse casting and a heartbreaking history make the screen version of Marvin's Room more memorable than it otherwise would be.
Fresh: Now and then, a scene will hit you in the gut, such as when Streep restyles Keaton's chemo wig. When sentiment is this honest, it's not hard to swallow.
Fresh: Based on a play by Scott McPherson's who died of AIDS, it's impossible to watch the well-acted film (particularly Diane Keaton, who should get an Oscar nod) without thinking of its themees: the various approaches to love and the strength of family bonds
Rotten: There is a core of substance in Marvin's Room, and persuasive acting to back it up. Which makes it a special pity that the filmmakers didn't trust viewers to have the necessary intelligence to figure that out for themselves.
This movie, in general, is a comedy with a touch of hope. I believe this is the perfect family movie because it shows how much fun you can really have with complete strangers. Hank (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a bad boy who is always locked up in a mental institution. But when he travels down to Florida with his mom and younger brother to see his aunt, he shows true heart and love, which is something I enjoy seeing. All the characters did an astounding job; one of the best movies I've ever seen. I highly recommend it.
Great cast, touching story.
