Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: For all its artificiality, Playing by Heart percolates with an earnest charm. – Stephen Holden, New York Times, Jul 1, 2010

Rotten: Carroll's characters spend so much time talking, albeit intelligently, that the connections they make seem peculiarly synthetic. – Lael Loewenstein, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: If Playing by Heart is the kind of film that used to be known as a "woman's picture," it certainly provides more emotional nourishment than most other mainstream movies generate these days. – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times, Jul 1, 2010

Rotten: As a young scenemaker who keeps landing in one bad relationship after another, Jolie doesn't exactly avoid the pitfalls of the material she's given. But her performance is flabbergasting. – Charles Taylor,, Jul 1, 2010

easily one of the greatest RomComs

I almost don't even want to describe it as a RomCom, bc that might fully respect the grief and disarray the characters go through. First time I watched this, it was an instant classic. Also, it's so nice to see Jolie, before she became Jolie.

Let us buy!

I love this movie!! I don't just want to rent it on ITunes - I want to buy it!
