Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: A soft-hearted but soberly made little movie that gives sentimentality a good name. – Rex Reed, New York Observer, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: I'm pleased to report that, within this overly familiar trope, there's plenty of room for small surprises, not the least of which are delightful, understated performances all around. – Michael O'Sullivan, Washington Post, Jul 16, 2008

Fresh: The pain that's evoked in this small, warm film -- the deep and unspoken yearning of child -- is as universal as it is heartbreaking. – Amy Biancolli, Houston Chronicle, Apr 21, 2005

Full of Surprises both endearing and enraging

This was an unexpected jewel of a movie. Not a Hollywood production which gives this movie believability. Definately worth the rent.

Not a bargain bin film

This film is by no means earth shattering: it is a bit of a single-mom fantasy fulfillment film. But, it is decently written, well acted, and Gerard Butler eats up the screen during the few times he is present. He hardly says a word, but he becomes the center of gravity at the moment of his first appearance. So fans of his would certainly not want to miss this quiet drama.

Really sweet!!

This is such a sweet movie. While the ending was a disappointment to me, I thought it was so cute the relationship that formed between Frankie and his "dad". Gerard butler is great in this, I really liked it :)
